Grande Prairie is Canada's Top Entrepreneurial City

The Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses have rated Grande Prairie as the top entrepreneurial city for the 3rd year in a row.  Details of their report and scoring can be viewed on their website at:

I typically take little stock in the national studies and their rankings because there is no way for the studies to fully account for context when comparing cities.  However, it's hard not to be proud of being named #1 in such a prestigious category!

The study does seem to be supported by the large number of businesses that have started up in Grande Prairie and how well existing companies are doing in their respective markets.  Grande Prairie continues to grow and the recent recession had far less impact on our region than it did across the country.  I don't mean to be insensitive to the businesses that had to close their doors or lay off employees, but in comparison to the scale in other cities, Grande Prairie was fairly well insulated from disaster.

As this city continues to grow and attract new entrepreneurs, I can't help but notice the large number of businesses here that are holding awards for being number in their sector.  Next time you're in a business, take a look at their wall of awards - top sales in western Canada, top sales in Canada, #1 in donations, etc.  There's a reason why these companies are so successful and we need to continue to uphold this success.
