Council Report for May 17, 2010

Tuesday, May 4th – IDP Open Public Hearing

Wednesday, May 5th – Combative Sports Commission Training Session
- reviewed the procedures and operations for holding combative sports events
- commission members were trained on the expectations required of them prior to an event, during the event and shortly following an event.
- reviewed all the paperwork required to run each event.

Thursday, May 6th
- Continuation of training for Combative Sports Commission
- Multiplex Regional Resources Committee

Monday, May 10th – Information Exchange with Downtown Association

Tuesday, May 11th
- Attended Community Development Committee meeting to discuss the future of the Canada Games Arena.
- Arts Development Committee guidelines review for festival funding

Wednesday, May 12th – Materials Recycling Task Force

Friday, May 14th – Provincial funding announcement for CAIRN on the boulevard

Monday, May 17th – National Public Works Week Proclamation

Community Futures Board Meeting
- Agri-Food Value Chain Project is finally underway. The grant application went out in 2008 and was approved by RDI for funding. The RFPs deadline was earlier this year and a local company, Innovisions & Associates, was selected as the successful proponent. We are expecting our first disbursement from RDI very soon and will have the contractor start up this week.

- Go-Forth Institute is offering entrepreneurship training through the internet. We have a link on our website for this business service. The cost of the 3 module lessons is $299 and includes about 10 hours of training broken up into 20 minute sessions.

- We have partnered with Creating Pathways to deliver a workshop on May 20th called 12 Steps to Succession Planning. If you’re interested in attending the workshop, please call Holly Sorgen at 814-5340
